Special Educational Needs
Where a child has a special need, we work closely with parents/carers and outside agencies and in line with the SEND Code of Practice complete the School Support stage.
SEND Report and Local Offer
St Mary’s Local Offer is information for parents, carers and people who support pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The Local Offer will outline the support and provision that parents and carers can expect to receive for a child with SEN. All Lewisham maintained school have a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with SEN and are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school.

School Support
- The class teacher identifies a child’s Special Educational Need and or Disability (SEND).
- The class teacher, supported by the Special Needs Co-ordinator, (SENCO) draws up plan which addresses the child’s difficulties and outlines any additional provision that will be made for the child.
- The child’s name is placed on the school’s SEND register.
- Depending on the need, the class teacher and SENCO are supported by specialists from outside the school.

Single Equality Scheme
We recognise our duty and responsibility to establish equality for all students, staff, other members of the school community and service users regardless of their ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity, marriage or civil partnerships, age or beliefs as defined within existing equalities legislation. The purpose of our Single Equality Scheme (SES) is to fulfil the duties to promote equality for people with ‘protected characteristics’, and embed fairness and equality at the heart of our school community.
Accessibility Plan and Policy
At St Mary’s we are keen to improve the quality of education on offer for all our pupils and as part of this the Governors and Leadership team of the school constantly reflect upon the school’s potential to enhance provision for children with wide ranging needs and disabilities.
